From the extra-special request for a superhero cake to sending out only the hippest invitations to your five-year-old's social circle, childrens' birthday parties can be fun and festive events for both kids and parents with the right amount of planning.
Here are some tips on how to plan a less stressful kids party:
- Don't do it alone - One really is a lonely number when you have balloons to pick up, decorations to hang and a cake to bake. Having a combined party with one of your child's friends can help you divide tasks and save money.
- Less messy cake - Dividing up a birthday cake can be difficult. Someone wants a big piece and then the next person wants a mini piece. You can solve this problem by baking cupcakes. These hand-held gems are kid-sized and easier to dole out to hungry party-goers
- Decorate early - The early bird in this case gets to worry less on the actual day of the party. Decorating the night before will help you leave time to do last-minute errands before party time.
- Pre-made party favors - Fix bags of treats a week or more in advance. You can label each bag with a child's name using colorful Dymo embossing labels. This way the kids can't fight over who took a bag they wanted -- there is a special favor with his or her name already on it.
- Enlist the kids - Make clean-up a game, or ask older children to pitch in. You might be surprised; they may actually enjoy helping out.
